Corey Ian Haim was born on December 23, 1971 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Judy (Israeli-born) and Bernie Haim. His mother enrolled him in drama classes as a child to help him overcome his shyness. He scored his first role in 1982 in the Canadian television series, The Edison Twins. His United States acting debut was in the 1984 film First Born.
In 1986, Haim got his big break as the title character in the film Lucas, starring alongside Kerri Green, Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder. The next year he had a featured role as the younger of two brothers in Joel Schumacher's film, The Lost Boys, which began his recurring acting partnership with Corey Feldman. In 1988, he starred in two more widely released films: License to Drive and Watchers. Some of his other 1980s films included Dream a Little Dream, Murphy's Romance and his self-promotional video documentary, Corey Haim: Me, Myself, and I.
